  • What does the mini bernedoodle generation terminology mean?
One letter you will find in naming all generations of hybrids or designer dogs is "F" which stands for "Filial Hybrid." It means that the crossbreed in question is the offspring of two different purebred dogs. The number in the generation types signifies the generation. So, the number 1 in "F1" means the first generation of Bernedoodles, and "2" in "F2" means the means the second generation and so on... The letter "B" in "F1B" Bernedoodle means backcross. Backcross in Bernedoodles means that a Bernedoodle has mated with a purebred poodle or a purebred Bernese Mountain dog. F1: 50% Bernese Mountain dog, 50% poodle F1B: 25% Bernese Mountain dog, 50%poodle F1BB:12.5 % Bernese Mountain dog, 87.5% poodle F2: 50% (if from two F1's), 50% (if from two F1's) F2B:37.5% (F1:F1B), 62.5 % poodle F2BB: 18.75 % Bernese Mountain dog, 81.25% poodle F3: F2 equivalent, F2 equivalent
